As the ubiquity of the mobile phone in society has exploded over the past decade, it has become a target for criminal organizations and illegitimate manufacturers. Criminal organizations in Latin America and across the world are stealing mobile phones at alarming rates as a source of income or as a means to allow them to operate under the radar of law enforcement. Luckily, technology-based solutions to monitor these stolen, counterfeit or sub-standard phones exist in the market and Colombia recently had a successful implementation of one of these solutions, which can be replicated in other countries around the world.
